Ad Rem Political Communications and Public Affairs
For one of the most preponderant, and yet most difficult forms of communications, this training covers the complexities of the process, from messaging and talking points, to crisis and reputation management.
Political communications are tricky: don’t let your message miss the mark.
We are inundated with political messages on every platform. These increase in periods leading to elections in democratic countries, and in times of economic, political, and social turmoil everywhere.
While people are more easily receptive to political messaging from sources they trust, many messages fail to convince, and others even manage to anger intended audiences. Political gaffes are made repeatedly by even the most seasoned politicians and public figures; that includes elected or appointed officials, CEOs of corporations, actors, athletes, writers - anyone in the public eye, or with a following.
Sometimes, it is intended decisions or actions that trigger audiences; from a communications perspective, every consideration must be given before giving that statement or issuing that press release.
Nothing spreads faster than an ill-phrased tweet or a fumbled comment to a news outlet; increasingly, angry and mocking reactions go viral.
Be prepared to be in the spotlight.
Every political actor, on a local or global level, relies on a communications director and a team to prepare a wide range of output on policy and responses to events, to name but a couple.
So why are politicians, government officials and international civil servants sometimes so unprepared for reactions and repercussions to statements or comments they have made? Why are some so clumsy in responding to allegations or actions?
Training and practice can mitigate the risk of getting your message off track, and prepare you to skillfully assess the main considerations to make for political communications, relying partly on relatable examples of successful – and unsuccessful – communications from various renowned sources.
